About Lake Balaton in General
Lake Balaton and its surroundings are the most popular holiday resort in Hungary. They draw thousands of domestic as well as foreign tourists every year, providing European-class services. Seaside recreation, historical monuments, beautiful natural, great excursion opportunities are just a few of the many activities the "Hungarian Sea" provides.
Balaton's Water
Balaton's water surface is 590 square kilometers. Today, its depth is around 3-4 meters on average. It reaches its maximum depth of 11.5 meters between the Siófok Basin and the Semesi Basin, at Tihanyi-kút. The lake's surface gets more than 2000 hours of sunlight every year. The shallow water quickly reaches air temperature. Throughout the long warm summers, water temperature can reach 25-27 Centigrade. Thanks to this, Lake Balaton could become Central Europe's favourite bathing place.
Balaton Wine-Growing
Lake Balaton is surrounded by vineyards everywhere. Both Romans and French monks brought vine with them here. Vineyards developed on the south side of Balaton provide conditions for light wine, champagne, etc.
Programs at Balaton
Sailing and swimming attractions, famous balls and programs attract thousands to the areas surrounding the lake. There are various attractions near the enire lake, such as water skiing, bungee jumping, swimming pools, and so on.
